This image is a really effective shot mainly because it
affects the audience in different ways. Some people may shudder when watching
this scene and I think that is what the ‘Auteur’ has tried to accomplish. The
shot can be considered as a medium shot and has been taken at this distance
mainly so that the head explosion fits within the shot.
I think that the extent of this shot has been exaggerated as
it follows the context of the rest of the film and it is the ‘auteur’ style of
filmmaking. The lighting within this shot also emphasises the bright red
blood used for the head explosion.
